WHAT IS HAPPENING??
In June 2019, NYC Pride and InterPride will merge for WorldPride 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, creating the largest gathering in LGBT history. This is the pinnacle moment of gay rights in America and it starts right now.
Hi there, my name is Kevin Coop, creator of Humans of Pride, the documentary film and photo-journal project of WorldPride NYC / Stonewall50. Think 'Humans of New York' but for the LGBTQIA+ community.
WHO IS MAKING IT HAPPEN?
We have partnered with all the producers of WorldPride 2019, NYC Pride, and Stonewall50, and built a stellar team of over 20 local and international volunteer LGBTQIA+ filmmakers. People have been coming out of the woodwork to contribute their time, talents, and resources to make this happen.
This is a project built with the community, for the community, and we now look to the world to bring it all home.

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?
Project Brief / Production Rollout:
April / May 2019 - Production has begun on the documentary film, led by director/producer Kevin Coop and will continue through the 4th of July. The photo-journal book is in full production as well.
The Humans of Pride documentary will share what it’s like inside gay culture in NYC during WorldPride 2019 and Stonewall50. The filmmakers mission is to creatively leverage this moment by communicating an unbiased and overdue ‘State of the Community Address’ with the world.
Our featured stories cover the full picture - from the drag culture phenomenon, and Brooklyn’s underground scene, to a new wave of same-sex couples becoming first-time parents, and the global fight for trans rights. This film represents a democratized message from all LGBTQIA+ people, shared through the story of who they are both as an individual and as a people in today’s world.
WAIT, THERE'S A BOOK TOO?
The book, also named Humans of Pride, will be a detailed look at the humans of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and asexual subgroups, and the complex conversation that exists within. As we transition from one generation to the next, this piece of art will freeze this moment in time and become a unified story of who we are, where we come from, and where we are headed.
Humans of Pride is all encompassing, focused on unity, and represented by a three-prong symbol to embody the undefinable gender fluid spectrum that is us.
The female at the foundation, the male symbol on the right, and the trans symbol connecting all three on the left. Here's an image of the first and only draft that was done that turned into what it is today.
WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?
I (Kevin Coop) vividly remember my journey to becoming proud of who I am as a gay man. It was chaotic and challenging for sure - filled with both good and bad. Life tried to break me down at age 18. It was during this time that I saw the film MILK, the story of gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk. This film changed something in me and I haven't been the same since.
I’m writing and producing this project because it’s part of who I am as a human. I’m a storyteller with a soft spot for my community and I know what it’s like to live in the dark side of being gay. We all deserve to have our own enlightening MILK moment in our pursuit of happiness. This WorldPride is the MILK moment of a new generation and I couldn't be more proud and grateful to be a part of it.
And now, this:
The object to the left of David (left) on the mantle is the WorldPride Statue. At the Closing Ceremony in Time Square, the statue will be passed on to the city of Copenhagen for WorldPride 2021!
