Save The Store

This fundraiser was developed by a group of concerned neighbors to raise awareness and funds for legal expenses in our fight to prevent proposed changes to the existing Canale’s/Home of the Hams store.
The store was purchased by Rooziman Shah in August of 2023. There is currently a Variance Application before the Shelby County Board of Adjustment to allow relocation of gas pumps and addition of an overhead canopy, similar to what would be in place over gas pumps at any typical convenience store across Memphis and Shelby County.
Rooziman Shah is President of Shah Holdings Group, https://shahholdingsgroup.com/rooziman-shah/ which specializes in commercial real estate development and is heavily invested in convenience stores across Shelby County and beyond. His ventures typically seem to be developing a site and subletting to a tenant.
The origins of the store date to the early 1900’s when it was originally located across from the current store. The original store was operated as a quaint neighborhood oasis owned by the Houston family that provided basic staples and served as a post office to residents of what was then a small farming community. The old store was eventually demolished, and a new building was constructed on the current location in 1966. The store was subsequently purchased by the Canale family in 1991. The Canale family was originally from the community and had a family farm in the vicinity of what is now the corner of Houston Levee Rd. and Wolf River Pkwy. In Collierville.
It is our belief, and hope, that this community store should be preserved as it has been for decades! If a variance is approved, it will pave the way for a typical 24-hour convenience store that eventually brings lighting, loitering and the predictable crime and mischief that will inevitably have a negative impact on property values of all the surrounding residences!
Please join our fight to preserve this small rural corner of Shelby County by contributing to our campaign! Any excess funds collected, beyond what is necessary to legally defend our fight, will be donated to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital in the name of those that gave to preserve our neighborhood.
