*Small update at the end of the post*
Written by the Lane Family:
Joy and Lee Lane are the parents of four kids, located in a small town within Saskatchewan, Canada. They have always worked hard to guarantee there’s food on the table, and a smile on their kids faces. Their 3rd child, Kate, was born with Cerebral Palsy. She was born with fluid on her brain, meaning she required a shunt within her body to constantly be draining that excess fluid to prevent a buildup.
Sadly, Joy began to suffer with intense health issues that interfered with her ability to take care of her children, especially Kate who needed even more help from her. So the family made a decision to let Kate and her sister Crystal live with their family support workers, since they were more capable of attending to Kate's complex needs.
Kate gets to spread her love and humor to a new community as she lives with her second family, Dave and Stacey and their 2 foster sons. Dave and Stacey do an impeccable job at taking care of the two girls, and the girls love them an astronomical amount.
As of current, Kate has been denied a brace she needs because of no supplemental health benefits. The benefits were discontinued because she did not live in the family home anymore. Neither family can afford paying for any of this out of pocket, especially since most of the government funding that Dave and Stacey used to receive to take care of the girls has also been recently discontinued.
The initial plan was to just keep the girls until Joy's health improved. Unfortunately that has not happened. So the plan now is for Dave and Stacey to gain legal guardianship over the two girls, with Joy and Lee's blessing.
The upcoming legal fee's, lack of funding , and no supplemental benefits for certain needed medications/ equipment is why we have decided to start a Go Fund Me.
If shes already been denied a brace, both families are scared of what else she’d be denied for.
We are hoping to raise enough money to be able to care for both girls daily needs for a year giving us time to complete the legal guardianship, as Dave and Stacey cannot even apply for government programs or medical assistance for the girls without the legal forms. It will also be used for travel to specialist appointments in the city, and as mentioned any medical related costs not covered at this time.
No money will go to waste, if we receive more than the initial amount, that money will go into savings for the the lift van that will soon be needed to transport Kate as it is already hard to get her in and out of vehicles.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this post, and we will be equally as grateful. Thank you.

Update
Thanks to a private donation Kate’s hand brace is covered.
We inquired at the pharmacy today and the girls medications are no longer covered and come out to $230.
So we will be changing the wording on the go fund me to target prescriptions and anything else not covered, transportation to and from appointments, and legal fee’s to get the guardianship so they can be under our family plan. Any extra will still go towards the purchase of a van for transport Kate!
Thanks to all who have donated or shared!!!
