College Tuition
Hi, everybody. I want to ask for some help for a close family friend. She is an undocumented student that has lived in Houston since she was a toddler and has gone to school in Houston her whole life. She graduated top of her class from Willowridge High School last year. The University of Houston accepted her into the Engineering program.
Due to her citizenship status, she is not eligible for most scholarships or any federal financial aid or grants. The suspension of the DACA program during the last administration prevented her from applying when she turned 15. I recently helped her apply when the DACA program started back up again earlier this year. But unfortunately, it was just suspended again before her application was reviewed and approved. She has taken several classes at HCC to make her education more affordable, but she cannot take all the required courses for her Bachelor's there.
I am a firm believer that Education is Freedom. I didn't understand that saying when I was a kid, but I look at my life now and realize precisely how important education is. It hasn't just helped me but also my kids and nieces and nephews that I'm influencing. It breaks my heart to see a talented individual prevented from achieving their full potential because of decisions they were not a part of.
I will post the receipt of payment to UofH for any amount of money collected in this GoFundMe account so that you see the direct impact of your generosity. I have not let my friend know I'm doing this because I don't want to get her hopes up before knowing how it will go. I will also try to video her reaction if this goes well and ask her permission to post it on this page.
