3D-Printed Face Shields for Healthcare Providers

Donation protected

Medical providers battling the deadly coronavirus, COVID-19, are not adequately supplied with the personal protective equipment (PPE) they desperately need to continue the fight with confidence that they’re safe from infection. Although many are hoping the apex is near, we must prepare our medical professionals for a long battle.

As a former Bay Area EMT with family and friends working as first responders to COVID-19 emergency calls, I understand the critical need for appropriate PPE when combating infectious disease. In addition to protecting medical professionals working on the hospital front lines of this COVID-19 crisis, we must also protect those supporting the front lines - the paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, and caregivers answering 911 and home healthcare calls.

Let’s arm them with the protective face shields they need and when they need them. I’m contributing to a solution, and I ask you to join me.

Through my work at Stanford University, I’ve gained valuable, transferable experience creating 3D-printed enclosures for an assortment of products. Now, working with my Stanford colleagues, I’ve researched and tested a design currently pending approval from the National Institute of Health and spent the last three weeks proving my production capability 3D-printing protective face shields. I want to distribute them, at NO CHARGE, to any healthcare facility, first responder, or vetted individual caring for COVID-19 patients.

I am now producing between 16-32 units each day and have set a goal to produce 1,000 units before California ends its shelter-in-place initiative.

This is strictly a volunteer effort that is not sponsored, endorsed, or affiliated with Stanford University. That’s why I ask your help to fund the resources necessary to continue the manufacture, storage, packaging, and distribution of 3D-printed protective face shields.

We commit to use your donation for:

·         Supplies to disinfect and clean areas where this equipment is manufactured

·         3D Printer filament

·         Storage containers for completed face shields

·         Ziplock bags to package individual face shields to avoid cross-contamination

·         Delivery & shipping costs for individual and bulk requests

·         Additional 3D Printers to increase output

·        The manufacture of additional 3D-printed PPE designs, vetted by the US National Institute of Health - https://3dprint.nih.gov/collections/covid-19-response

What sets this effort apart from others, is a commitment to serve individual healthcare providers and first responders, as well as accredited hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and other organizations treating those stricken by COVID-19.

I will be providing regular updates on this page to show progress and celebrate donation milestones.
