Donate to help Rob (Bubba) Mahan fight Melanoma

Hi, I’m Allie, Bubba’s sister and I want to thank you for taking the time to read my brother’s hardship thus far and I hope you can understand the seriousness of his skin cancer diagnosis.

Bubba or Rob, however you may know him by was diagnosed with Melanoma on May 4th. We all knew Melanoma wasn’t great but didn’t know the outcome would be this serious.
After having to be rescheduled by Wentworth Douglass, he had his first two surgeries June 9th to have the mole removed from his back and his lymph nodes removed from his right armpit to check if it had spread. The surgeon was only going to remove 2 lymph nodes but since they were small they clumped together accidentally taking out 5 total. 1 out of the 5 showed the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes.
He was then referred to the oncology team at WDH but we also seeked a second opinion from Dana Farber.
During his recovery period and numerous appointments both of his incision sites filled with fluid. His armpit incision had filled with fluid the size of a softball in which he needed to have the fluid drained. His back incision was also drained, it had opened up becoming a gaping hole and became infected. Both areas are still healing and we are still changing his bandages multiple times a day.
Next steps before treatment included MRI, PET scan, x-rays, and bloodwork.
The PET scan had showed the cancer had spread to his left armpit lymph nodes.
Since it is just an area that lit up the surgeon from Dana Farber is unable to tell exactly which lymph nodes need to be removed resulting in having to remove ALL of the lymph nodes from his left armpit. This is considered a major surgery causing Bubba to have to stay overnight and having a drain placed to remove excess fluid. The drain will stay in place for 7-10 days having to be cleaned and emptied throughout the day. He will have to wear a compression sleeve for a while after and when doing any physical activity for the rest of his life.
With this surgery, he will be out of work an additional 8 weeks with very strict rest. He has not been able to work since the day prior to his first surgery May 3rd.

Bubba will start Immunotherapy on August 4th. This treatment will be IV infusions once every 3 weeks for 1 year and his major surgery is scheduled for August 8th.
Bubba’s current diagnosis is Melanoma Stage III C but is being treated as Stage IV.
We don’t know what the future holds and what complications will continue to arise but our hope is for Bubba to make it through all of this cancer free.
He is fortunate enough to have benefits from UPS, however it is only a small percentage of his pay.
If you know who I am, I would do anything and everything for my family, and with Bubba’s situation I feel hopeless. This go fund me is to help my brother with his medical bills, aftercare, travel expenses, and groceries.
I know times are difficult right now but anything helps, even just sharing this on social media.
As you can imagine, because of his diagnosis and unable to work he hasn’t had the best mindset. So if you know Bubba (Rob) please send him a message, I know he would appreciate it.
My family is already so thankful for all of the support and kind gestures thus far. Please continue to say a prayer and/or send positive thoughts our way as his journey is not even remotely close to being over yet.
