Hello! Im Lorenza, a fashion design major at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC about to go into my sophomore year of college this fall.
I'll start my story from the very beginning. My family moved to the United States from Mexico in 2005 and we have been working towards getting our residency for the past 11 years. However, because we are not yet residents, and are here on Visas I have not been able to receive any financial aid or scholarships for college. AKA we have been paying tutition in FULL which has made it really hard for my family, especially since paying for getting residency costs a lot too.
I've always wanted to be a fashion designer, ever since I was a little girl making paper hats and shoes with my grandma in Mexico, and wanting to go to FIT was always a dream I had that I never thought would come true. Now that it has , I'm so thankful that I got the opportunity to study at not only the school I've dreamed of my whole life, but one of the top rated universities for this career in a city full of opportunities.
I started this capaign so I can continue pursuing my dream in New York, while easing the financial stress of my family. I don't want them to worry how we're going to pay the next month's tuition, while also worrying about getting our residency, and bills etc. Because I can't work due to my immigration status, I want to help them as much as possible and I thought this would be a good way to start.
Though I have set a goal, any amount of money helps and I am so grateful for anyone that does donate, even if its just $10. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
