Lost Mom, Dad, & Job All In 3 Months
We are the Neyland Family - Justin, Jamie, and our 3 kiddos (Garrett, Chance, and Morgan). We try our very best to be private and productive people as much as possible. We do not EVER ask for assistance or handouts and do our very best to always help others in need whenever we can...however, this past few months have really been FULL of tragedy & hard knocks, and we have found ourselves in the midst of a terrible downward spiral emotionally, physically, and financially. I'd like to just give you a brief timeline so that maybe you can understand why I'm here... In late October, my husband, Justin lost his father after a long and difficult battle with lung cancer. He left no will, a VERY small insurance policy, and lots of debt. We paid what we could with the policy towards his funeral expenses, but still owe over $7,000 to the funeral home and are currently unable to afford attorney expenses to handle the estate without having had a will in place. In early December, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at a young 67 years old, and after moving her in with us to care for her and get her back and forth for testing/treatment, we lost her only a few short weeks later, in mid-January due to complications from a blood clot resulting from surgery. While she did leave a will, she had zero life insurance, no assets to sell, and lots of debt as well. Again, no money for attorney fees to have the will probated. About 2 weeks later, my husband and I were involved in a motorcycle accident that basically blew out my left knee and broke my shin bone, requiring an 8 1/2 hour surgery to rebuild my knee and leaving me out of work for what my surgeon believes to be anywhere from 3 to 6 months! My husband works VERY hard as a lineman and I am a Registered Nurse for a Hospice organization. I had just changed jobs right before my father-in-law died and my employer is unable to protect my position under FMLA, as I have not been there long enough to qualify, and while I have been paying premiums on my Short Term Disability policy, it did not go into effect until Feb 1 (the wreck took place 2 days prior to that) so they denied my claim, meaning 3 to 6 months WITHOUT PAY. Obviously, with all that's fallen on us recently, we've both missed a lot of work and our bills are piling up, the wolves are calling daily, and creditors are knocking at the door. Things seem to be falling apart around us and we have racked our brains trying to sell what we can and doing everything possible to keep what we have. I've even drained my retirement and savings accounts because we don't like asking others for assistance (it's embarrassing) but this is my last hope for some help to get us back on our feet. I'm still unable to drive but have been having friends get me to Dr appointments and physical therapy 4x per week and doing all I can to get back to work as soon as possible, hoping I'll still have a job by then! Anything helps and we are so appreciative of any and all donations possible! Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts (gosh, this is soooo embarrassing!), and even if you are unable to donate, we'd LOVE even just being in your prayers! Humbly, The Neyland Family
