Our Story:
When Jared was 19 he started to get migraines every few months. As time went on his migraines continued to get worse and worse. In 2002 we married and had two children and are currently pregnant with twins that are due in October. During this time we continued to try to find a solution to Jared's headaches. He has seen several neurologists and been through every medication they suggested with only short lived relief. He has been to two pain specialists, has had two nose surgeries, has been to a chiropractor, an acupuncturist and tried many of the natural oil, vitamin and medications out there. He has been on a strict diet, done allergy testing, has done botox twice, once with a specialist in Utah, has had an MRI and a CT scan and now is on narcotics to try to help with the pain. Nothing that we have done or tried has led to any solution or relief. Jared is now in constant pain. It never goes away. He has a hard time working with this pain and spends most of his time in bed. He just recently lost his job because of his migraines and the difficulty of keeping a regular schedule. He has suffered with these migraines for almost 20 yrs. A few weeks ago we found out about a procedure done by a neurosurgeon in Denver, Co. He specializes in individuals affected by long-standing, severe pain syndromes that have not responded to conventional medical and surgical treatments. He offers his patients his vast experience in dealing with chronic pain syndromes through implantable neuromodulation devices. In reading more about this treatment, Neurostimulation works by intercepting pain signals before they reach the brain. To do this, a small system is implanted within the body. This system, similar to a cardiac pacemaker, is used to replace pain with a different feeling. Here is some more information if you would like to learn more about this device or how it works.
We feel hope for the first time in a long time and feel like this is what we need to do. However, with the loss of Jared's job we are also losing our insurance at the end of July. We have decided this is important enough to try, despite our circumstances, and so we are trying to raise the money to extend our insurance so he can have the surgery in August. We will probably have to be in Denver for a week and a half to two weeks for this procedure and need to raise money for our travel expenses, for what the insurance probably will not cover and for the time he will be away from work if he can secure another job before then.
We would be so grateful for your support on behalf of our family and for your willingness to give Jared the opportunity to have this surgery and get his life back.
