Dojo Studios is a start-up multi-facility semi-private studio environment in Cleveland . Founded by artists Kim Menapace, Jack Sherry, and Nathan Kunst after realizing how limiting and/or expensive commercial studio spaces can be. As currently practicing artists in need of a space for personal and commissioned multi-media work, they decided they could also act as a resource for others as well by inviting artists in need of short term space and assistance to share in what we can provide.
Why we need you!
We have been self funding the construction of the space and purchasing of equipment for several months, allowing us to learn as we go, and figure out exactly what we need out of the space.
But! We have big dreams for the space and the community we have the potential to build around it.
We have several facilities up, running and in use! And we are making a push to complete several others whithin our walls.

Wood/Assembly shop
Our main shop accomidates many forms of making!
a large open space, miter and table saw, and a pluthera of hand tools. We also have buid a large storage loft, with space for 2d-media and a comfy reading area underneath!
Dirty process room:
Our "Dirty Process room" is exactly that. An area for media intrusive and/or dangerous to occupied areas like mold making, casting, mixing compounds, kiln firing, and dog.
We plan on inproving our sink, installing a state of the art ventallation system, adding work surfaces and storage.
Spaces in the works:
We still have plans for several facilities that we can incorporate into our space. Heres what we have planned for our large basement area.
Photo/Video Area:
Our photo video area is designed to be a light controled room serving several media production functions, from filming miniatures, practical visual effects and stop motion, to studio photography and artwork documentation. We plan to construct tracks for lighting, blackout curtaining for lighting control and several work surfaces to accompany our growing collection of media production gear.
Metal Shop:
Our Metal Shop will provide resources for structural welding and small metalworking. We plan to have a MIG welder and oxy-propane torch, along with hand tools, an anneling kiln, several work surfaces and ventalation.
Small Dye area:
The dye room is a small multi-purpose area we wish to convert a shower room into in our building. We want to instal a work surface with hotplates for fabric dying and a washer/dryer.

We would like to be as transparent as possible about what we need to complete our studio! Here, we'll break down what we will need and the costs as detailed as we can.

When Were Live! Events and Projects:
We have tons of ideas for the space outside of being a place to work. We have the ability and freedom here to host pop-up exhibitions and events, be a home base for collaborative projects of all shapes and sizes, and work with established institutions such as MOCA, Ingenuity Cleveland, and the Cleveland Film Commission to become an active participant in the arts comunity!
Here, we've listed some examples of what we would like to offer to the public!
POP-UP/Short term exchibitions:
We plan on opening up space in our main shop to host exhibitions of your work! YOU could propose a show for our space, or set-up shop to sell your wares, OR BOTH!
Our facilities have the capacity to show a wide range of media from drawings to apparrel to installations. OR ALL OF THE ABOVE!
Concert/lecture series:
That same space will be used to host performances or lectures/talks as frequently as we can, and as broad of range as we can manage. There could be black-metal one day and biology the next!
Project thinktanks and premieres:
Whether your project is in the works or ready to go out into the world. We will do what we can to help!
Gather your loved ones for intense scrutiny of your work, or let all who hear gaze upon your prowess as you emerge from the shadows.
"Livestream Feverdreams" fundraisers:
The Streams will be performance based fundraising events. Either for projects that we wish to fund, assist somebody in funding, or to see how much we can give to NASA so we can die happy in space.
