Save the Life of a Child - Orphanage Fundraiser

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kato Nicodem, and I am the founder of Save African Child 254 Ministry. I have started this fundraiser in the hope that you will help me complete my life's mission - to construct an orphanage in my home city of Mityana, Uganda.

About Me
This cause is especially important to me because I am an orphan myself. I was born in a small village deep in Central Uganda called Mabanda. My mother died when I was only two years old, and I was raised by my aunt. After years of physical abuse, at the age of 7, I left home and began caring for myself on the streets. I would sell water from a basket on my head to try to pay for food. At this time, the Ugandan police arrested every child on the streets and placed us in camps. In one such camp, a Sudanese soldier recognized that I was intelligent and stole me from the camp, bringing me back to his home in Sudan. There he took me to school and paid for my secondary education. At this time, war broke out in Sudan and I was forced to return to Uganda. There I applied and was accepted to Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, which is Uganda's most prestigious and oldest university. I studied and completed my degree in electrical engineering in 2016. However, upon graduating, I returned home to my aunt and found my community in complete disarray. I saw children starving on the very same streets that I had once walked during my youngest years. I immediately fell to my knees and prayed. That is when I knew that something had to be done. That is when Save African Child 254 Ministry was born.

My Organization
Save African Child 254 Ministry is a non profit government organization based in Mityana, Uganda, in East Africa. It was
started in 2017 with the vision to support the needy in procuring such basics as shelter, food, clothes, scholastic materials, medication and other essential items. Within the five short years of our existence, we have managed to change the lives of more than 37 orphans, who are now enrolled in school, instead of wandering the streets in search of their basic needs. We house and support the welfare of the 37 orphans in our care, providing them with a stable living environment so that they might thrive and improve their circumstances.  As such, we are currently paying monthly rental costs to support our house. However, we were informed that we can no longer house and care for these 37 orphans on our current property.

Our Mission
As a result, in order to provide a more sustainable living environment for the 37 orphans under our care and possibly expand our mission to include other orphans roaming the streets, we have decided to purchase land and construct an orphanage. We are faced with constant hardships in our rural area of Uganda. Children must walk over 6 miles (10km) to travel to school. Our community faces major problems with access to food and clean water. Left to their own element, many children on the streets will inevitably fall sick and become bed ridden due to hunger. As it stands now, most children spend their days with an empty stomach, consuming only a cup of sugar-less porridge for supper. It is our mission to provide for these orphans in need.

How You Can Help
Every cent that you choose to donate could literally save the life of an orphan.  All proceeds raised will go directly to the construction of this orphanage. For every milestone we hit, we will be providing updates. In the meantime, we will be sharing videos of some of our orphans under care so you can literally see the people your donations will impact.

While Uganda may seem like a far away place, can you imagine a world where the children of your neighbors were roaming the streets every day in search of food and clean water? How can a child prosper if he or she is worrying about his/her next meal, or worse yet, confined to a bed from a disease as deadly as malaria?

I implore you to consider the plight of the orphan and donate anything in your power.
