Help Karl Fight Cancer

Hi, my name is Karl & I’m currently battling stage 4, metastatic prostate cancer. Doctors told me at the start of my journey back in February 2019, that my particular type of prostate cancer would not be treatable with immunotherapy, so I’ve been going through other forms of treatment. From hormone suppression therapy to surgery to radiation, then clinical trials & chemotherapy, all have gotten me close to having a PSA that’s undetectable, but not quite, but then the cancer had metastasized to my bones. Through all of this, the bills continue to pile up, and with the treatments giving me brain fog, I’ve had to mostly retire from my line of work. For the past 2 years, I had to abandon creating the comic strip I’ve been producing for over 30 years at that time, because I just couldn’t write scripts & produce the strip I loved bringing to my fans. Also, another side effect of the treatments has been the wasting away of the muscles in my legs so that my bad knees, that would flare up on occasion, has turned into full-blown bone on bone knee arthritis, requiring at first the use of a cane, but now has lead me having to use a wheelchair to go out when I know I have to walk more than a few steps.

Now, after chemotherapy has failed, I have been given the option of a new treatment. But private healthcare, being what it is in this country, has me jumping through hoops to try & have this new treatment covered & ultimately saying while they will cover a portion, it would leave me with having to pay for more than what we can afford as my wife has become the sole breadwinner in our household. And the expenses for the household doesn’t stop when you get a life-threatening disease such as cancer. Insurance, taxes, etc. tend to sneak in when your mind is focused on trying to find a method that will bring your disease into long term remission.

So there, in a nutshell, is why I am turning to this crowdfunding to try & help me keep my battle with cancer going, while keeping a roof over our heads. A roof that has been my home for 34 years, that we’ve raised 2 wonderful children, and countless fur babies, and would like to keep living in as I continue fighting.
