Engaging and Inspiring Girls in STEM 2022

The AVIXA Women's Council is excited to be raising funds in benefit of Rosie Riveters, a 501 c3 non-profit working to engage and inspire girls from diverse backgrounds in STEM.

 

Rosie Riveters' goal is to close the gender gap in STEM; in 2019 women made up only 27% of the science and engineering workforce in the U.S. Their innovative STEM curriculum works toward achieving gender equity in the field by engaging preschool to middle school girls in programs that build participants' critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and overall confidence in STEM via productive struggle.

 

To date, the organization has served more than 6,000 participants and achieved overwhelmingly positive results. According to cumulative data across all of our programs, 96% of participants enjoyed the program and projects and 71% were inspired to further explore STEM.

 

Funds will be used to create hundreds of hands-on and engaging STEM Kits for elementary-age girls (Kindergarten-5th Grade). Providing a rare, and oftentimes non-existent, opportunity for hands-on STEM learning and productive struggle for kit recipients.

 

Information on Rosie Riveters Binary Code Kits: Coding is fun for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade with this kit that translates their name into a binary bracelet or keychain!

 

Kids learn about binary, the two "bit" systems that form the basis of computing. Rosie Riveters' binary decoder helps them translate their name into binary and they'll use beads to represent it on a bracelet or keychain! Kits include black and clear beads (approximately 35 of each color), keyring and necklace clasp, string, marker, binary decoder, several blank 8-bit worksheets, and access to video content including a lesson on binary and a visual building guide.
