Bit by a COBRA

Donation protected
Back in 2014, I underwent treatment for Stage 3 inflammatory breast cancer. When I saw my oncologist, I thought I was going to be officially be at the 3 1/2 year mark. She discovered a lump along the right side of my neck.  Hopefully this will turn out to be benign lipoma and not a form of lymphoma.

Either way, we still need to be able to keep up our COBRA payments, which are $2100 a month for a family of four.  Our older daughter, who is severely disabled and cannot speak, requires this liquid form of an anti-seizure medication.  Without health insurance, this medicine is close to four hundred dollars for a month's supply.

Before I cashed out my final IRA, we were paying a lot for a small amount of this medicine. I cashed out my pension and an IRA back in 2013.

My husband's unemployment benefits are only a fraction of what he used to earn. We can buy groceries and pay a few bills but that's about it.

When my mother died, in 2012 I thought I was going to inherit her condo outright. Instead the condo was placed in a trust fund, and the bank sold the condo.  I receive a monthly check which does NOT cover our mortgage. I joke with my husband, "Kiss me, I'm heiress."   I can pay some bills, but that's about it.

In 2013 I saved the house.  In 2104, I saved myself.  Now I have to figure out how to do both.

Until we get on our feet, we are going to need a lot of help.  My husband will be updating his resume, and we are trying to start a business.  We really want to get my husband out of the rat race because he has NOT received a raise since 2008 despite the fact that he is a software engineer with a degree from MIT.

If people can contribute even a few bucks apiece then we have a chance of staying afloat while we handle the initial things we need in order to figure out what we are doing next.

Thank you for reading this.  If you can, please share on social media.

And by the way, COBRA should not be more than our monthly mortgage payment.
