POSTING FOR A LOCAL well known family
This is Josie
Daughter to emma and Brendon
she has high risk accute lympnoblastic leukemia (A L L) she turns 2 in july. She only has a set treatment plan for the first 4 weeks, which she is currently on day 6. she has 2 different kinds of chemo through her central port weekly, she has her 2nd lumbar punctute tomorrow, during which they inject another chemo drug into her spinal fluid. Shes had a blood transfusion and 2 lots of platelets, she'll need more platelets tomorrow before she goes to theatre. she has only today been diagnosed with diabetes as a side effect to her treatment drugs, she struggling to get her blood sugar down, so she requires a full on treatment plan and insulin injections 6-7 times a day for that as well. only time will tell wether it will be permanent. Or just temporary while she receives chemo. She is on an oral steroid twice a day which has a lot of side effects.. plus she's on 2 other oral medications 3 times a day. She will be on antibiotics for the entire 2 years or so of treatment. she has already had a bone marrow aspiration and she will have another 1 in 3 weeks, the results of which will determine the path of treatment for the next 2 years atleast. She will be in newcastle, between the hospital and ronald mcdonald house for 6-8 months depending on how the leukemia responds to the treatment. Emma wont be going back and forth to glen innes with her for that entire time. But they are still trying to figure out what brendon is going to do with there 2 boys. They are not entirely sure how much there medications will cost them when they do have to buy them.. but the cost of travel back and forth for brendon and the boys will be a huge burden and then the cost of medications in the long run will be a devastating cost
