On September 25th our whole world came crashing down. We found out our healthy dad, a 51 year old married father of 3 has terminal bowel cancer. It came as a total shock with no warning.
As well as running a very successful Handyman business within Sussex for the last 13 years my dad Lars has been the most amazing dad to me, my brother and my sister.
For the past 18 years my dad along with my mum Lisa have looked after my severely disabled little brother Ryan. The conditions that Ryan has are extensive, he has cerebal palsy with no control over any body parts, epilepsy, is blind, nil by mouth and fed through a tube into his belly, unable to communicate, has chronic sleep apnea and needs oxygen. It is a miracle that he is alive today to fill our lives with so much joy and loads of smiles.
My parents have always looked after Ryan and have never asked or needed any help. My parents are the strongest husband and wife duo with the biggest and most loving hearts.
My sister Amelia, focused and working hard at school, aged 13 is set on becoming a doctor, wanting to help people like her big brother.
And Amy (me) aged 21. If it wasn't for my dad and mum I would not be where I am today. I graduated the University of Westminster with a Law degree in the summer, now working full time and also studying the Bar Training Course with a Masters in Law part time. Alike my younger sister Amelia, I want to have as much knowledge as possible in order to help those that do not have a voice.
My mum, the most strongest and caring woman I know, not only is arranging my brother Ryan's care, medication and appointments, she now has my dads care, medication and appointments to handle.
I would also like to personally thank the nhs for the care and quick diagnosis made by Haywards Heath Hospital.
The reason I have created this is in order to be able to make memories as a family in the time that my dad has left and to explore any potential treatments that is out there to prolong my dads life for as long as possible.
My dad being the strongest most amazing man he is, is not scared of dying, but is scared of the financial consequences of leaving my mum and us children behind.
