Help for domestic violence survivor
Donation protected
Just over two years ago, my friend K and her four children escaped a horrific domestic violence situation. Her former partner was later convicted on multiple charges and is currently incarcerated for these crimes.
K has spent the last two years rebuilding a safe and stable life for her family, thinking the abuse was over and that she could move on. But suddenly, after all this time, she has been served with court papers that have left her broken.
As her abusive former partner had spent some time living at K’s home, he is now claiming—from prison—that he is entitled to a property settlement which would render K and her children homeless if his bid were to be successful.
Three of K’s children are living with disability, with one requiring significant physical care, and K is their sole carer. K works in a low-paid industry, has ongoing medical expenses and is still suffering PTSD resulting from her ex-partner’s violence, which has reduced her earning capacity. As a consequence, K is having difficulty funding a legal challenge to her former partner’s claim. But because she has a job and a house, she is not eligible for legal aid.
K has worked her whole life to be able to provide this small home for her children, so I am asking you to help her keep it out of the hands of her abuser. Please donate what you can. Your gift will make a real difference to K and her children’s lives. Thank you.
