3rd Annual Hummingbird Music Project
Donation protected
For the past 4 years we have worked to establish a cultural exchange with the Purepecha community of Michoacan, Mexico. This exchange focuses on the similarities between the coal communities of Appalachia and the indiginous communities in the mountains round Lago de Patzcuaro. Our commonality is explored through the sharing of musical styles both in formal concert settings as well as informal jams in social settings and cantinas. We stage 7 formal shows over a 9 day period including one that serves as a fund raiser for eye surgeries for folks who can not afford them otherwise. This year marks the third year we have continued to build this musical bridge over border walls by staging these concerts.
The cost is around $1200 for each musician and technician which includes airfare and meals for the 9 days. All of the participants and organizers donate their time and talent to this endeavor. This is the highlight of many of these young musicians career and and a unique opportunity to connect with our neighbors to the south. We rely on the support of music fans who understand that music is a language we all can speak together.
