3rd Annual JAMnesty Fundraiser
JAMnesty Fundraiser: Protect the Protest
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm a member of Lake Forest Academy's chapter of Amnesty International and we are planning our 3rd annual school-wide music festival, called JAMnesty, to raise money for Amnesty International to protect the right to protest globally.
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who take injustice personally. Amnesty works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are denied. Currently the world's largest grassroots human rights organization, they investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. In order to continue this amazing work, we need your help!
Protest is an invaluable way to speak truth to power. Throughout history, protests have been the driving force behind some of the most powerful social movements, exposing injustice and abuse, demanding accountability and inspiring people to keep hoping for a better future.
Across the globe, the right to protest is actively being threatened. In India, for example, the authorities have resorted to the use of guns, tear gas, baton charges, internet shutdowns, and even forced evictions against people protesting the government. Pride marches around the world are regularly banned or violently suppressed by state authorities. Research from Amnesty International reveals that protesters have been arbitrarily arrested in over 50% of the countries covered in its annual report, including in the United States.
By working together, it is possible to bring about real change. Amnesty International strives to provide active support that amplifies the voices of activists and other people-powered movements.
Add your voice to our global call to protect the protest by contributing to our campaign today.
We appreciate all of your contributions in advance!
