Our Mission Statement
Strides 4 Steven, Inc. has been formed in the loving memory of Steven Roth, who lost his battle to young onset colorectal cancer on November 16, 2021, just three months short of his 29th birthday. Our Mission is to raise awareness and money for the benefit of organizations that conduct research for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, cancer patients and their families.
Stevens Story
Steven lived much of his life as a typical, happy, and healthy individual. Post college, he worked as an insurance underwriter, using his risk management degree. He loved working and was advancing his career in the insurance industry. He spent his free time attending New York Ranger games, waiting for the golf season to begin, and surrounding himself with family and friends.
Shortly after his 26th birthday, on February 9, 2019, Steven started feeling quite uncomfortable and he initiated his search for answers. After numerous doctor visits and tests, Steven heard those three words that make your heart stop. “You have cancer.” Steven was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and he and his family’s world turned upside down. For the next two and a half years, Steven underwent two invasive surgeries and countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and unforgettable trips to the hospital during the pandemic.
As Steven fought, he amazed us in ways we didn’t think were possible. He remained positive and never complained. Steven continued to be the humorous, easy-going ray of sunshine needed in everyone’s lives. With the unconditional support of his loving family, devoted girlfriend, and great friends, he was determined to fight hard and never give up. He didn’t let his diagnosis define him. He continued to immerse himself in the things he loved, like hockey, golf, traveling, and binge watching his favorite TV shows. He loved life and had many plans for his future. Steven looked forward to traveling, getting back to work and starting a family. However, in the fall of 2021, Steven’s disease grew past the point of control. He became increasingly uncomfortable and weak. Nevertheless, on October 14th, Steven gathered the strength to attend his last Ranger game, the season home opener with his father.
Steven passed away on November 16th, 2021. He touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He was the nucleus of his family to his father, mom and two sisters, the most precious boyfriend, cousin, nephew and friend to so many. We are forever grateful for the memories we shared, the unconditional love he provided and the countless tears he leaves us as we think of him. Steven had a zest for life that cannot be replicated. We live every day in his honor and memory.
Steven, we love and miss you so much. We are so proud of you for the way you fought these last three years, and how you approached your entire life. The image of Steven cruising around in his convertible with his infectious smile will forever stay in our hearts.
Love always,
Lee, Amy, Dani, Steph, Dana, and Douglas (and of course Brody, Zucc and Hudson).
