Medical and Financial Help

Hi, my name is Sandy Russell. I am a friend and classmate of Marlana Sherman at the University of Bridgeport in CT, where Marlana and I are graduating with our M.S. in Human Nutrition in May. Unfortunately, at the end of January, Marlana received the devastating news that she has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which has spread to several of her organs. As most of us were focused on finishing up school and studying for our Comprehensive Exam to graduate (10-exams taken within one day in February), Marlana was suffering much pain and fatigue while navigating this new reality.  Despite this, other personal circumstances, and attending medical appointments, she passed the Comprehensive Exam allowing her to graduate in May!

 

Marlana is close to the finish line in our program after all the hard work and sacrifices we know graduate programs entail, while she works full-time and is a caregiver for her adult brother with autism. She was an ambassador and liaison with our school administration while providing many of us with friendship and support. What an inspiration!

 

Marlana will need to take a leave from work to fight her cancer battle, and we know how expensive treatment can be. She and her family are focused on getting her the care she needs, so I am reaching out to you with their permission. I humbly ask you to consider a donation. No donation is too small and will go directly to Marlana towards her treatments, medical expenses, and caring for her family. Every dollar helps.
