Disabled Artist and community activistin need!

For the last eight months, I have not been able to meet my financial responsibilities because I am living on disability and it is not enough to make ends meet. I have exhausted all of my savings and all of my credit cards.

All of my assistance was taken away from me once my disability kicked in and it has not been enough to cover any of my financial obligation, such as rent, utilities, cell phone, monthly food, bill, etc. my rent alone is $2000 a month and I live in New York city. I have a Con Edison bill that is due of $3900 and that is the light bill.

I only receive $1400 a month from disability (170.00 of it is taken for health insurance) and at this moment I’m in the hole $17,000. I would like to raise enough money to cover that amount plus my monthly expenses for the next eight months while I catch up.

I suffered a stroke at work, August 2019 and on my way to a full recovery and then the pandemic hit which not only to slow down my recovery, but regressed it. At this point, all of my funds, which were not much have dried up, and I have no way of sustaining myself financially until I can get back on my feet.

Due to the pandemic, I spent 3 1/2 years closer to 4 without being able to get any professional physical therapy and this has delayed my recovery substantially. I try my best to keep my body moving, which is extremely difficult for me because the stroke affected the entire right side of my body, including my vision in my right eye.

I try my best to stay active, no matter how difficult it is, but the only income I have coming in is disability insurance, which doesn’t even cover my rent and I have exhausted all my finances and I am down to a negative and I still have to pay my rent and all my bills.

Before the pandemic after coming home from the hospital from my stroke, I was gonna start making candles again because I am a candle maker so that I can have an income and I would like to restart that and I am also an that hasn’t been able to paint because the lack of finances has also affected my ability to acquire art supplies. Eight months worth of expenses would get me to the holiday season where I can work on selling candles. and restart my business again so that I am not suffering these financial setbacks.
