Help my mom while she is out of work for a double mastectomy
Donation protected
On November 15th, my mom went in for a mammogram after a friend had pushed for her to schedule one. It had been 5 years since her last one, because her last experience was traumatizing. At that mammogram, they discovered numerous fluid filled cysts that they had to aspirate and it was a painful experience that she did not want to have to go through again. We all know dogs are smart right? Her Great Dane would not stop pushing her nose into her chest and then just sitting there staring at her (several times on different days). It really made her begin to wonder if she truly knew something that my mom didn’t.
After the mammogram, she was told that she would only be called if there was something concerning. On November 16th, she received that call, they had found three spiculated masses in her right breast and one in her left. On the 28th, she went in for an ultrasound and they chose to do a biopsy that same day and it was confirmed that one of the masses were cancerous. After blood work and a biopsy, it was confirmed that she has Triple + Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). Because she has a high grade tumor (Grade 3 with a 8/9 Nottingham score) with higher than normal levels of HER-2 and KI-67, the cancer cells will grow and spread faster. She will start Chemotherapy for 5 months prior to having surgery to shrink the tumor. After Chemotherapy, they will perform a lumpectomy to remove the tumor and then radiation everyday for 5 weeks to follow. After radiation is complete, she will also have a year of HER2 inhibitor targeted therapy to block the ability of the cancer cells to receive chemical signals that tell the cells to grow since her HER-2 protein count is so high.
She gets her port in on December 29th and starts Chemotherapy on January 3rd.
My mom is very independent and works a total of 3 jobs (sometimes 60+ hours per week) to pay her bills and now even more to pay for her ongoing medical expenses. Her oncologist, breast surgeon and nurses have told her that she should not be working this much but with the piling expenses, she is not sure how she can afford not to work. She has been warned that she is going to feel very sick after Chemotherapy treatments and will not want to work so I am making this to help ease her mind and let her recover without the stress of finances.
Your generosity and support will mean the world to us and will allow my mom to focus on her recovery without the added stress of mounting medical bills. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring she receives the best care possible. Together, we can help my mom beat breast cancer, and I am forever grateful for your support during this challenging time. Prayers are also welcome.
