Jerry and I recently rewatched Field of Dreams, the 1989 classic starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, Timothy Busfield, and Burt Lancaster in his final role. Its timeless message of belief, perseverance, and following a seemingly impossible dream struck a deep chord with us—especially now, as we work to build something extraordinary: the Counterculture Museum at the iconic intersection of Haight & Ashbury.
Two months ago, we leased a magnificent space that will soon be home to this one-of-a-kind museum. Since then, our lives have been a whirlwind of excitement, inspiration, and possibility. We’ve been collecting artifacts, fielding calls from supporters, and immersing ourselves in the creative process of bringing this vision to life.
Just this week our nonprofit received incredible donations that include original 1960s posters, a large collection of counterculture buttons from Jerry's good friend, Howard, and ten of the original twelve issues of the iconic San Francisco Oracle from Doug, a wonderful longtime friend and supporter. A friend of one of the original Oracle artists even sent us hand-drawn illustrations from the paper’s early days—a priceless link to the past.
But as Field of Dreams teaches us, building something meaningful takes more than vision—it takes support from a community of believers.
To open this museum and tell the powerful stories of the significant countercultures of the 1950s, ‘60s and beyond, we need your help. We must paint our new space, frame fragile posters, hire designers to create compelling exhibits, and purchase locking display cases to protect and display these irreplaceable pieces of history.
That’s why we’ve launched this GoFundMe campaign. Every contribution—large or small—helps bring the Counterculture Museum closer to reality. Together, we can build something that will inspire generations to come.
Join us. Be part of this extraordinary journey.
