Help us save little Aleia's life.

Hello everyone! Our names are Patrick (30) and Tara Widlund (33). We are the proud parents of our precious Aleia and Freya. Even though Aleia has been with us for the past two months, she has already given us more happiness and joy than we could ever imagine.
Aleia's first two months have had complications not identified until Wednesday, October 5th. She is suffering from a rare condition called biliary atresia. Biliary atresia is a rare liver disease that requires a liver transplant. Before the transplant, she has an emergency procedure this Monday, October 10th. Her first procedure is to remove any blockage or bile that has not been able to pass internally due to the effects of biliary atresia. Immediatley after, she will be moved to Columbia's center for liver transplants to begin receiving a liver donation. The process is expected to take anywhere between one and two months. This time frame includes both procedures and intensive recovery.
Aleia's liver procedures demand full-time home care for her healing and maintenance through extensive medications and follow-up care. Before this intervention, both of us worked full-time jobs. However, to successfully administer daily medications to our daughter for her maintenance and sustainability, one of us must take an indefinite leave of absence. Our household went from two incomes to one because no one else could administer our daughter's medication daily. Additionally, our insurance is expected only to cover certain portions of the procedures and medication.
Your donation would be supporting any of the following costs that we are responsible for :
- Surgery costs not covered by insurance
- Emergency room costs
- Department transfer costs
- Observation and recovery costs, including medication
We consider every angle possible to support our daughter's life and future. Aleia has spent her first two months alive in pain. There were so many mixed reports from pediatricians and prior emergency room visits that thankfully led us to admit her to Cornell Hospital. Since then, they have provided her with compassion and round-the-clock care. However, Aleia's journey has only begun. Her strength and light guide us daily and remind us that anything is possible. Our little Aleia deserves to be a little sister, a granddaughter, and, most notably, our daughter.
Your donation will help save Aleia's life. A small step or contribution can go a long way. Despite the difficulties with Aleia's procedures and aftercare, our family has become stronger through our love and devotion to each other. Please share this account by posting and re-posting across all social media platforms. Biliary Atresia is a rare condition that requires more education and studies. We are thankful to Cornell and Columbia for aligning us with families that have been through the same experience so we can continue to build more knowledge of biliary atresia.
Updates will be posted on this account as she goes through her surgeries. You have our deepest thanks, as we know that times are incredibly hard. Because of your compassion and the warmth of your heart, our baby Aleia can have a chance to live her life. Again, thank you.
Love,
Patrick, Tara, Frey, and Aleia Widlund
