We are Warren & Saara from California and Finland, and we live in Hoorn, the Netherlands. We have taken in a refugee family from Ukraine into our home on March 19th.
They are a fantastic family from Lviv consisting of the mother Anya, her twin 12-year-old girls Karina & Violetta, their grandmother Lena, and Lucky the 3-year-old Bichon. They fled to the Netherlands without their father and grandfather, who had to stay in Ukraine.
They left behind their everyday lives, homes, family, friends, and dreams with just 2 suitcases for 4 of them because the buses were so full to Poland. After spending a week in a hotel, they made the 16-hour bus ride to the Netherlands. They have little money left, and the Dutch government has no financial aid for Ukrainian refugees setup.
We have now transformed our home office into the girl's room(Lucky likes to stay with them), and our spare bedroom is being used by grandma & mom. We are doing everything we can to offer them a safe and stress-free environment.
Anya prefers to be as independent as possible. Still, she really can't work for the time being until the Dutch government comes up with a scheme to get the Ukrainian refugees Residence Permits.
Karina & Violetta need to buy new clothing soon as they came with their winter clothing, and now the temperatures are changing to spring. They will also need to enroll in school this week without speaking Dutch or English.
Please help them make this possible and donate. Every dollar raised will be given directly to the family. Any little bit will help so much to start their lives over in a country they have never been to before or speak the language.
Thank you soo much!
Saara & Warren
