Support Mom's Journey to a New Kidney

We are not ones to ever ask for help or donations, but costs are quickly piling up and becoming overwhelming, hence the reason for this post.

As you all may know, in Sept of 2023, Mom developed an infection. She went septic, and her heart, lungs, and kidneys all shut down. We were waiting on family to come say goodbye when the kidney doctor informed us he could save her. She went on 24-hour dialysis and came back to us. Her heart and lungs recovered, but unfortunately, her kidneys did not. She is now on dialysis 3 times a week. We decided to look into kidney transplants.

Fast forward to present time and Mom is in the process of receiving a kidney. Taylor and I are both a match to donate to her. We've been taking her back and forth to Pittsburgh (about an hour or so away one way) for multiple appointments to check off a list she has to complete prior to her surgery. Just today, she had to have dental surgery, which was a huge cost as she doesn't have dental insurance. She will still have appointments throughout the next 6 months to prepare for the kidney transplant, which involves more transportation to Pittsburgh as she can't drive and hotel stays.

Once she has had the surgery, she will have to go to Pittsburgh 3 times a week for 6 weeks or longer, depending on how she does, for bloodwork, testing, etc., which will require someone to take off work to take her and again traveling. Taylor is the primary donor and I am the backup. Depending on how that goes, that person will be down for about 6 weeks or longer, out of work, and not allowed to drive.

The reason for this GoFundMe is to cover the cost for gas to Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future, hotel stays if needed, help either Taylor or myself while we are out of work recovering, and any unforeseeable circumstances that arise. There will eventually be a benefit dinner put together that we are working out the details for and will update everyone on that.
