Daniella's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Daniella Mayo (20 years-old), both a young single mother to a 1 & 1/2 year-old boy and hard worker, has always managed to fill our hearts with love and leave a smile upon our faces. Wherever she went she was constantly filled with positive energy and always selflessly helped those in need around her, whether it be just a friend or a family member. She is able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone she meets, always making sure those around her are okay and if they need anything. On July 11th, 2017 nightmares became real when we recieved the call that Daniella was in a severe car accident driving home from work by herself that broke every bone in her face, a couple ribs, a part of her collar, caused a cut on her forehead that was so deep it needed over 300 stitches, and her pelvis. When emergency personnel arrived on seen they had Daniella air lifted to Albany Medical Center where she proceeded to have emergency surgery to remove two plates of her skull to prevent her brain swelling from causing brain damage. After recieving surgery on her skull, Daniella went into a coma. As we waited and waited, hoping and praying the best for our Daniella to awake, she finally did. Eventually she was able to breathe on her own, but wasn't truly aware of what happened to her or the true severity of the situation. Whenever we would tell her, "We'll see you later, Daniella" she would mumble back to us, "I don't know why you're saying that, I'm getting out of this place." As Daniella's brain swelling began to reduce tremendously they began setting up the upcoming facial reconstruction surgery and figure out what they would do about her broken jaw and mouth palate. Wednesday, July 21st 2017 Daniella recieved her facial reconstruction surgery to have metal plates put in both her cheeks and her chin. Metal rods were also placed throughout her mouth to help hold her mouth's palate together and fix her broken jaw at the same time as well. Even though her brain swelling was reducing, they were still not able to put Daniella's skull plates back until the laceration on her forehead healed. Daniella also recieved damage to her left eye that required her to wear an eye patch for the time being. Tuesday, July 27th 2017 Daniella was able to be discharged from the hospital and come home due to her recovering at such a remarkable pace. August 4th 2017 Daniella is undergoing the surgery to have her two skull plates put back on to her head. Her eye also seems to be showing signs of progression as well.
We are all more than astonished by the amount of support and love that Daniella has recieved and we are all more than thankful for all of your donations, thoughts, and prayers. Every amount helps and so does every thought and prayer she recieves.
