Help Samantha follow her rugby dreams!

Sam has had a passion for rugby ever since she first stepped on the pitch as a member of the USF Women’s Club Rugby Team in 2018. When COVID hit in 2020, she was forced to return home but never lost her love of the game. In 2021 she joined the Santa Barbara Mermaids Rugby Team. Sam would drive 40 minutes to Santa Barbara for practices twice a week as well as making the 3.5-hour trip to the Los Angeles area for games on the weekends just for a chance to play rugby. It was while playing for the Mermaids that Sam made the decision to pursue rugby at a higher level. She began training harder, eating better, and dedicating herself to being the best player she could possibly be. Sam is so grateful for all that her amazing coaches and teammates have taught her. Their guidance and support have truly been a blessing!
Earlier this year, USA Rugby started a U23 Women’s Pathway program to identify and develop a broader pool of athletes for inclusion in the Women’s National Team, focusing on those players who may have started playing after high school. Sam wanted to be a part of this program, so she traveled to Los Angeles and Arizona to try out for the Pacific South All-Stars. Pac South was comprised of some of the top players from Southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico. She made the team! They competed in the West Regional qualifiers at Treasure Island in San Francisco in mid-June where they qualified for the championships in Lemont, IL later that month. It was at the championships that Sam caught the eye of USA Rugby Coaches and was invited to join 29 other young women as part of the U23 Junior National Team and participate in the 2022 Garnet and Gold Classic in Ottawa, Canada from July 13-20. We are so proud of Samantha! She has shown dedication and a fantastic work ethic over the last year to get to this point. It is awesome to see all her hard work pay off. This could lead to amazing opportunities for Sam and if you would like to help her follow her dreams, we would be so grateful. Any amount helps. All proceeds will go to covering her flight, lodging and food for the Garnet and Gold Classic in Ottawa.
