TOWARDS AN EVER WIDER “WE” - MARISTS

My Name is Br Chris Wills, from the Collaboration and Volunteering team of  Marist Brothers Australia. Support is needed for four young students to complete their last year at University.
WE ARE GRADUALLY GETTING THERE! We have received a substantial grant from the Marist Brothers Australian Province and this means we are halfway to our target. We need the other half to ensure our asylum seekers of support for 2022.

They are on Humanitarian Scholarships at the University of Newcastle studying Civil Engineering and Computer Science.
Their Scholarship allows them the same status as international students. Their fees are covered by the university but they receive no support from Centrelink, Medicare or even a concessional travel card. They must complete the course full time. Part-time study would cancel their scholarship. Some of the students work part-time but others are barred from this by the conditions on their visas.

They need financial assistance for room rent, books, food and travel. We have provided this for the last three years but now funding is needed for the last year of study.

Let's help them through this last year so that they may become contributing citizens welcomed by all Australians.
