Have you ever been in a discussion with your family of who's more prioritized to survive? Can't imagine that -even in my worst nightmares, yet that is my reality now. My name is Enas Abu Shanab, 20 years old, living in Gaza under genocide. I was a third year Cyber Security Engineering student who's looking for a promising future before the war took almost everything! I'm one of nine family members who've seen everything they built fades away. The war forced us to evacuate our home under heavy bombs to be living in fear and hard circumstances where we struggle to provide the very basics needs of life such as clean water, loaf of bread, medicine, and even safe shelter.
Sometimes I wonder who decides who's dreams matter the most? But, you know what? Dreams doesn't even matter any more cause we are facing death every second! There are so many ways to die here; airstrikes, bombs, hunger, and diseases, but death is the least fearful thing compared to being arrested, wounded, or losing your beloved ones. Each moment we're living the fear of losing someone we love, of being wounded or even sick in a place where hospitals are being targeted, of being murdered without a decent burial, and of losing our dear ones without being able to say goodbye.
My family has university students who are looking forward to living a promising future, children who still need food, education and protection, elderlies who need continuous medical care, a bride who is supposed to be united with her husband, and helpless parents with broken hearts for not being able to safe us. That is a small glance of our story where is no safe place, can you put yourself in my shoes and decide if my family and I deserve to survive? Or can you decide if our lives matter less than yours? Unfortunately, my family lost half of their source of income, and for us to be able to cross the boarders we need to pay a huge amount of money that we can't afford! Yet, this site brought a light hope to my shattered soul, and I ask: Can you blame me for wanting to find a safe place for my family?
All I'm asking you to do is to help us not becoming the next victims, to give us the chance to survive!
