4 x 4 x 48 for Surfrider
David Goggins, ex Navy Seal, created the 4 x 4 x 48 challenge in 2020. In the challenge, each participant has to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. That is a total of 48 miles between Friday night and Sunday evening. This is now the second year of the challenge, and Jacob Schumacher, Harrison Rost, and Kyle McNulty have decided to undertake the challenge in support of Surfrider.
We are set to undertake, and accomplish, the challenge March 12-14, 2021, Friday-Sunday. The three of us will be running together around our hometown of San Diego. Additionally, we will create update videos on the page for those who donate every 12 hours over the course of the challenge to share our progress. You won't want to miss them.
Bios:
Jacob:
Internal audit phenom and part-time semi-professional runner. Emphasis on the semi... In early 2021, Jacob ran a marathon on a whim without any training. Try that one, Mr. Goggins. A soccer player in college, he imagines himself on the pitch when he is running, and he has been known to grunt aggressively when hitting his limit. Glory days are yet to come bud.
Harrison:
Aspiring sales exec and pizza perfectionist. The combination doesn't sound like a recipe (get it?) for athletic prowess, but wait until you see his blistering pace. People don't realize just how many bricks it takes to build a homemade pizza oven. Also an ex-soccer player (high school goalie, if that counts), he is ready to dust off those calves and make a name for himself.
Kyle:
Cyber security consultant and surfing aficionado. He has surfed for 10 years, and he still hasn't landed an air reverse. Yikes. In his defense, an aficionado is one who is knowledgeable, not necessarily proficient... He absolutely despises running, but then one day he decided he wanted to do triathlons, and so here we are a few weeks later. Sorry Kyle, your LinkedIn network can't tap in for any legs in this race.
Needless to say we are excited for the event, but we would like your help in fundraising! Surfrider supports a fantastic cause, and they do so with low overhead! We love the ocean (even the Minnesota transplant @Harrison), and we want to ensure it is accessible and clean for our lives and generations to come. We are kicking it off with $300 of our own donations, and every dollar counts!
