Andrea e Cesvi accanto a chi fugge dalla guerra

Cesvi – in coordinamento con la municipalità di Záhony e World Central Kitchen– sta organizzando il primo Entry Point Hub sul confine tra l’Ucraina e l’Ungheria, in prossimità della stazione ferroviaria, diventata ormai un punto critico di raccolta di persone in fuga dalla guerra.

Mi chiamo Andrea Ricci, faccio parte dello staff Cesvi in Ungheria e mi sto occupando personalmente di questo importante progetto e del coordinamento con le istituzioni e le organizzazioni presenti sul territorio. Al momento è stato firmato un accordo di collaborazione con il Comune di Zahony (Ungheria) che permette ai fondi donati di arrivare direttamente in loco per supportare la municipalità a garantire servizi essenziali per le persone in arrivo.

Ogni ora, alla stazione del paese arriva un treno che trasporta in media più di 500 persone. Ogni giorno, circa 20 treni arrivano a Záhony. Dallo scoppio del conflitto più di 136.000 persone sono entrate in Ungheria da questo valico (secondo le autorità ungheresi). Trattandosi di un piccolo paesino, qui mancano tutte le attrezzature per gestire il passaggio di un numero così elevato di persone.

L’Entry Point Hub di Cesvi sarà uno spazio di 200 mq dove 5.000 persone in transito al giorno – soprattutto mamme con bambini – potranno essere accolte in uno spazio riscaldato e in grado di garantire standard igienici e di sicurezza, in cui poter:

• ricevere un pasto caldo

• seguire le notizie internazionali su quanto sta accadendo nel proprio Paese e avere informazioni sui treni e gli autobus in partenza da Záhony

• ricevere informazioni legali sullo status di "Protezione Temporanea"

• ricevere tutte le informazioni necessarie per gli spostamenti

• usufruire di una connessione Wi-Fi potente e di stazioni di ricarica del telefono

• ottenere schede SIM per mettersi in contatto con parenti e amici

• avere uno spazio riscaldato dove poter far dormire e giocare i bambini

L’hub avrà una capacità di accoglienza di 10.000 persone al giorno.

Intorno alla stazione di Záhony si è reso necessario questo spazio di Cesvi perché a causa degli elevati numeri di passaggio e la completa mancanza di un coordinamento in grado di gestire il flusso (in aumento di giorno in giorno) la situazione stava esplodendo. La circolazione delle informazioni caotica, la paura di perdere la possibilità di fuggire sui treni in partenza per Budapest, la mancanza di luoghi di accoglienza e l’accumulo di tensione dell’ultima settimana, ha reso necessario intervenire in questa direzione con l’obiettivo di migliorare la capacità e la struttura ricettiva, il coordinamento e la governance del centro di transizione della stazione di Záhony, punto strategico per l’entrata in Europa di persone provenienti dall’Ucraina, e per cittadini ucraini che decidono di rientrare nel loro paese. Záhony è l’unico punto in Ungheria dove è possibile varcare il confine ucraino via treno (in entrambe le direzioni).

La sensazione è che questo sia solo l’inizio di un'enorme crisi migratoria.

Nell'immediato ci sarà bisogno di supportare l'acquisto di:

• Un container riscaldabile da adibire a asilo temporaneo e di dotarlo di figure professionali in grado di garantire bambini e bambine di tutto il supporto necessario

• Bagni chimici per aumentare le condizioni igieniche della stazione di Zahony

• Un furgone per il trasporto di beni di prima necessità

• Creazioni di centri di primo soccorso medico e supporto psicologico

Per aiutare queste persone che fuggono dalla guerra, abbiamo bisogno di te. Ogni donazione, anche minima, è preziosa.

Cesvi - in coordination with the municipality of Záhony and World Central Kitchen - is organising the first Entry Point Hub on the border between Ukraine and Hungary, near the railway station, which has become a critical gathering point for people fleeing war.

My name is Andrea Ricci, I'm part of Cesvi's staff in Hungary and I'm personally involved in this important project and in coordinating with the institutions and organisations in the area. At the moment, a collaboration agreement has been signed with the Municipality of Zahony (Hungary), which allows the donated funds to arrive directly on site to support the municipality in guaranteeing essential services for the people arriving.

Every hour, a train arrives at the village station carrying an average of more than 500 people. Every day, about 20 trains arrive in Záhony. Since the outbreak of the conflict, more than 136,000 people have entered Hungary through this crossing point (according to the Hungarian authorities). Being a small village, it lacks all the facilities to handle the passage of such a large number of people.

Cesvi's Entry Point Hub will be a 200 square meters space where 5,000 people in transit per day - mainly mothers with children - can be welcomed in a heated space that guarantees hygiene and safety standards:

• receive a hot meal

• follow international news about what is happening in your country and get information about trains and buses departing from Záhony

• receive legal information on "Temporary Protection" status

• receive all necessary information for travel

• enjoy a powerful Wi-Fi connection and phone charging stations

• obtain SIM cards to get in touch with family and friends

• have a heated space for children to sleep and play in The hub will have a capacity to receive10,000 people per day.

Around the Záhony station, this space by Cesvi became necessary because due to the high numbers passing through and the complete lack of coordination capable of managing the flow (which was increasing day by day) the situation was exploding. The chaotic circulation of information, the fear of losing the possibility of escaping on the trains leaving for Budapest, the lack of reception places and the accumulation of tension in the last week, made it necessary to take action in this direction with the aim of improving the capacity and reception structure, coordination and governance of the transition centre at Záhony station, a strategic point for the entry into Europe of people from Ukraine, and for Ukrainian citizens who decide to return to their country. Záhony is the only point in Hungary where it is possible to cross the Ukrainian border by train (in both directions).

The feeling is that this is just the beginning of a huge migration crisis.

In the immediate future there will be a need to support the purchase of:

• A heated container to be used as a temporary kindergarten and to be equipped with professionals to provide children with all the necessary support

• Chemical toilets to improve hygiene conditions at Zahony station

• A van for transporting essential goods

• Creation of medical first aid and psychological support centres.
