Seeking Shelter

I have a vision; a vision for a world where homelessness does not exist. This vision will take a long time to fulfill but I am determined. In the beginning, I began by spreading awareness; helping people understand the causes and factors that play into people experiencing homelessness, helping to end the stigma against them. I created “goodie bags” that included a positive message, list of resources in the community, healthy food items, and personal hygiene products. I would go into neighborhoods and get to know the people experiencing homeless, I would hand out my bags and learn their stories. Next, I created an app that is free to download on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store. The app is aimed to providing all resources to people experiencing homelessness or at risk. Resources include but are not limited to homeless shelters, emergency shelters, youth shelters, domestic violence shelters, drop in centers, veteran shelters, family shelters, food pantries, free medical resources, substance use programs, and more. It is also helpful for any person who wants to help someone in finding the closest resource.
 
Now comes the hard part. The part that I dream of every night. The opening of my first youth homeless shelter. I need your help. I have the business plan, I have the vision. Did you know that more than 33% of children in the system become homeless on their 18thbirthday. There is a huge gap and need for a transition age program that focuses on 16-24-year olds. My program will provide the essentials and more. It will provide them with a safe place to rest their head at night, medical and behavioral health services and screenings, counseling and case management, life skills, job readiness skills and preparation, and housing assistance. I need your help to raise the funds to open this. Please help me reach my goal and help me create a much needed shelter program. Anything and everything helps!
