Raising money for Public Art in Lagos!

Donation protected

FEBRUARY 2014

Hello wonderful people-

Happy new year and happy new month!

My name is Shola Ajayi and I am working with some amazing folks to bring media and arts to youth from various communities in Lagos, Nigeria through The UR4Africa Project. The program has so many layers and so much potential!

We launched this program last year in September and had such a blast working with everyone. Check out our video here:

The purpose of this program is to do a series of project at least three times in a year. That way the students and artists gain different art and media skills, explore creative problem solving, and create a product that will engage and educate their peers and community members.
We are working in partnership with The Brooklyn Children's Museum and The Do Remember Me Project on a collaborative Health project. Our students will meet, collaborate, and create via the net! We are creating photo and video projects - cameras and computers have been provided by our partners!

So we need your help! There are so many things we need to help make this project a success.

We are trying to meet our $5,000 goal this time! This money will cover the bus to bring our artists to the schools we are working with, cover the cost of food for 11 days, cover the cost of fuel for a generator (check out the explanation in our fundraising video), and supplies.

If you can't donate money we definitely are in need of supplies. Here are the list of supplies that are on our website and supplies we'll need specifically for this project.

SD cards - 4GB-8GB
Flash Drives - 8GB
Big Roll of Clear Tape
Double AA batteries
Glossy Photo Paper 8x10

You can also link to our supply list on-line:

We also will have some amazing thank you gifts for your donations! If you make a $50 donation and up you will get a copy of the calendar the students create and a set of buttons they create too!

All our supporters get a special thanks in our media, on our website and will receive a poster of the kids!

Thank you so much!

Every little bit will go a long way!

THE UR4AFRICA TEAM!!

SEPTEMBER 2013
Hello!

First I was told to put this front and center for you all - the links:

UR4Africa: http://www.theur4africaproject.tumblr.com
PAP: http://www.thepublicartproject2013naija.tumblr.com
Videos: http://www.vimeo.com/ur4africa

So our project is called The Public Art Program (PAP), it is an art education and exchange program for Nigerian youth and local artists that seek to engage local Nigerian communities. PAP's primary objectives are inspiration, the development of new ideas and engaging one's community, which is rare for a youth program in a developing country. Our program is broken up into three phases, which gives our young creators an opportunity to learn about various ways to create art and communicate ideas (art and design, digital media, pedagogy, human rights, etc.) To learn more about how our program is broken up please go here.

We are piloting this program for the first time this September and October! We are still short on funds so any monetary support would be a great help -- even supporting us in our efforts to cut our costs for things such as food, fuel, and/or supplies will ensure our first year is successful. As a media educator I have seen first hand what programs such as PAP can do in the lives of young people and their communities. Join us! And please share and support our cause with others!

We are in need of:

A button maker and the materials needed to make it $200
Donations to cut our printing costs $600
Donations to cut our fuel costs for a generator $2,000
Donations to cut our food costs $3,900

Every little bit will go a long way. We know that if 500 people donate $10 dollars that we can make it! Donate and spread the word!

Thank you!
