After School Yoga Program in Liberia

My name is Janessa Wells and I am a yoga teacher and lover of humanity. This December, with your donations, I will travel to post-war Liberia to create an after-school yoga program for at-risk girls at the More Then Me Academy.




The MTM Academy is a new school in Liberia bringing to girls from the slums of Westpoint and at risk of working on the streets, a full day of education and nourishment for free! The After-school program will teach them meditation, yoga and be a place of safety. Studies have shown that children who do yoga do better in school, have higher self-esteem, are more able to handle stress and have stronger focus. And girls who stay in school, even for a single year of primary, marry 4 years later, have 2.2 fewer children and boost their eventual wages %10-20! School is powerful stuff and yoga can help them succeed!
Your donation will be used to cover my travel expenses- plane ticket, room and board while in country, visa for my stay in Liberia, vaccinations and malaria pills (I say no to typhoid), travel insurance, and most importantly, books, music, DVD's to deepen the girls study of yoga after I leave.
