Dance of Hope's Godfrey Opio needs medical help
Donation protected
Dear friends and well-wishers of Dance of Hope, we have received devasting news that our friend and Dance of Hope’s youth leader and artistic director Godfrey Opio was hit by a car in Kampala, near M-LISADA children’s home and needs medical assistance. There is no government-supported health care in Uganda and all medical bills must be paid out of pocket however, at this point we are just estimating. We are seeking support to cover his medical bills and if we raise more funds than needed, we will put the rest into our health fund so that more of our children can get needed health support.
About Godfrey
Godfrey is a treasure to many children in Uganda, he lost his dad when he was a little child and his family lived through challenges with the war in northern Uganda. Music became a transformational pillar and helped him find solace. In 2020, during the pandemic he started teaching and mentoring other underprivileged children at M-LISADA children’s home and in 2023, he led a team of 14 young performers on a 9-state tour across the U.S, leading workshops, bringing joy and socialization among students and families, and impacting lives of over 8000 children.
Godfrey just started University in Kampala and was scheduled to return to the US for a short tour this fall. We are hopeful that he will recover completely, and we appreciate all the support we can get.
Here are some videos from the Dance of Hope 2023 USA tour, showing Godfrey's amazing work.
