Join Our Unexpected Cancer Journey

Pictured above is a 35 year old husband and father, Glenn Allen Brackett. I am his wife Kelly Brackett. This year has been our roughest year yet, as not only was he in and out of work, he got a malignant cancer diagnosis that has devastated our tiny family of four. Allen had surgery the beginning of this year and they thought they got all of the tumor, but a recent doctor's visit confirmed our worst fears. Chemotherapy is our only hope.

While the treatment should help solve our medical problems (according to the doctor, Allen has a 90% chance for the treatment to fix it) it leaves us in a difficult position. Our eldest is low-functioning Autistic, requiring a lot of at home support, and we have a young daughter as well. I have been working more hours to plan for this coming therapy, but there's only so much I can do alone, and we don't have much familial help.

With Chemotherapy, he will likely have to take time off work due to ALL the side effects that result from it, but we can't afford for him to miss work as things stand, so he would have to work during his treatment period. The doctor has warned of weakness, exhaustion, nerve damage, hair loss, and more. If we met our goal of $2,000, that would keep our family afloat long enough for him to hopefully recover. We wouldn't have to worry about the power or water getting turned off while taking care of our weakened husband and father.

This year has brought us so many difficulties, so any help or support will be appreciated. Anything donated will be used to cover our bills and living costs, such as food, power, water, mortgage, etc. We don't need much as this amount would cover us for 2 months while he recovers. The doctor told us that if he suffered any nerve damage, it could even take up to six months to recover from that as well, but I'm going to do everything I can to not change our goal here.

Now that our "ask" is out of the way, here's a few more details about who we are, and what we've been through. I met my husband over 12 years ago and we fell in love. I'd already had a child, but Allen didn't care, stepping seamlessly into the role of stepfather of our eldest son, who now knows Allen as "daddy". We've struggled together tooth and nail since then to make it as far as we have. And we have made it pretty far.

By 2018, we'd overcome homelessness multiple times, lost family members to cancer, organ failure, and betrayal, and I personally started my fight with Major Depression and Anxiety. That same year, we also bought our first house, so we no longer had to worry about someone kicking us out, I had a good job, and good people helping us when we needed it, and we'd help them right back. We'd come so far, I thought! Then, in 2019, I lost my job, and my husband couldn't find work. We even lost our car, and only recently got one that runs correctly. And we've still had to pay thousands just to keep it running (multiple mechanical issues)!

Since then, we've been struggling to keep our bills paid, which is frustrating after we earnestly thought things were looking up this year. My husband found work in February after losing his job in December, so money became less of an issue, I started chasing my dream career more. Then the cancer diagnosis came out of left field. Now, we're both terrified of what the future will bring, and this therapy, that could potentially change an integral part of who my husband is. I don't want him to change who he is. It's one of many reasons I fell so hard for him! So, here we are. Pleading for help from internet friends and strangers alike because there's no one else for us to ask.
