Fire devastated my home and community.

On Monday, Oct 11th, I lost my home and car to a fire.

What seemed like a normal day besides being windy( up to 35 mph), turned into a day that changed my life and many others.

We went to the grocery store to get ingredients for dinner. We couldn't have been gone longer than an hour. On the way home, we noticed some smoke in the direction of the house. We debated on whether it was smoke or dust from the farmers harvesting the fields.

As we turned onto the road to the house, we heard fire trucks coming up behind us. After letting them pass, the panic started to set in. As we got closer our horror was realized. Four houses were already engulfed in flames.

Living in an marina means there is only one road in and out.. you can imagine the chaos as everyone tried to get out and people tried to get in to get to their loved ones and pets. People were running and screaming. Spraying things down to try to save their homes.

We were able to make it just in time to get the pets and important documents out. As we were leaving, the road out was already covered in fire. It was terrifying, I was worried we would get trapped.

The marina is on a loop, so there is only 2 exit points. One way was blocked by fire trucks battling the fire. The wind was spreading it faster than they could put it out. They had to call in planes to do air drops of fire retardant.

The congested road out gave us front row seats to watching the fire destroy 40 acres, 42 homes, and a farm. Wildlife was frantically fleeing. It was devastating and im completely heartbroken.

There were 41 other families that lost their homes and cars too. From families with kids to old people. Some had lived there more then 20 years. They need clothes, shoes, food, and pet supplies.
