Hello, my name is Maggie and I’m hoping to help raise money for my sister and brother in law. Recently their 17 year old daughter, Cicilia, was diagnosed with cancer. She begins her chemotherapy treatment today ( 12/18). It’s been a long ( and costly) road to get to just this point. Cicilia started complaining about severe abdominal pain several months ago. Doctor appointment after doctors appointment put the blame on Cicilia …. Just a teen with bad eating habits. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. Cicilia has been a dancer for years and watches what she puts in her body ( she’s also highly allergic to many things so she’s actually more aware of her diet than most of us). This all finally came to a head when 3 weeks ago she was rushed to the ER for extreme pain. It was decided she needed emergency surgery for a rare complication in here intestines (intussusception). In surgery she lost a foot of her small intestines and enlarged lymph nodes were discovered. After the surgery we were left with a lot of questions and worries (having no idea what could have caused this). A week later we got those answers. Cancer!!
As you can imagine, the medical bills are already piling up and travel back and forth to the various hospitals and doctors visits isn’t cheap. They could really use some help with the expenses. Family is helping out where they can but this is quickly becoming something none of us could have prepared for.
Through all of this, Cicilia has been an absolute rock. She is so incredibly brave and strong (and I mean that in more ways than you can imagine). She is the sweetest, kindest soul (she'll literally give a stranger her last penny) you'll ever come across. She's funny, extremely intelligent (honors student), talented (to see her dance .... just beautiful) and a wonderful sister, daughter, cousin and niece. She's simply AMAZING!!
We have little doubt that she is going to go through this with her head held high and be back to achieving her goals in no time!! She's a fighter!! Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support.
12/29 another update on our sweet girl for those that have asked. She’s currently still in the hospital. She’s neutropenic and will be receiving another blood transfusion shortly. This is very hard on her as her mom can’t be with her due to her own compromised immune system… thankfully dad is able to be there with her and mom FaceTimes her all day but she really just wants to be home. She’s still staying strong but as you can imagine it’s starting to ware on her. So please continue to keep her in your thoughts, prayers. And again thank you for your continued support.
**** 12/23 Just a small update. Cicilia was discharged Thursday night from her first 4 day Chemotherapy stay. Unfortunately, she was back early Friday due to complications with her PICC Line but thankfully she is home again and will be spending Christmas with her parents and siblings. All are adjusting to the new "normal". Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
We appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, messages and support. Thank you all so very much.
**** 12/20 We just want to take a minute to thank all of you for your overwhelming show of support! We're all just so blown away by your kindness. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
Also wanted to add that Cicilia loves reading all the kind messages and well wishes. She's feeling the side effects of the chemotherapy but is handling them like a champ. She's inpatient during her Chemotherapy treatments ( 4 day hospital stays at a time)... the isolation and being stuck in a room is starting to get to her (especially being away from her siblings so much during the holidays) so she truly enjoys getting a break from it all and reading everyones messages.
Again, thank you so very much from all of us!!
