Help a Hero - Retired War Dog

Donation protected

I would love to introduce you to Jordy.  Jordy served in a special operations unit for approximately 6 years.  He is a distinguished veteran of multiple tours in Afghanistan.  For those of you who aren't familiar with what these dogs do for our soldiers on the battlefield, they are indispensible.  From locating explosives to taking down the enemy, these incredible dogs put it all on the line.  For a Kong.   Would you go first into a building and take out a machine gunner for a Kong?  Jordy would.

Jordy is a hero in every sense of the word.  He transitioned from being a professional dog for most of his life to a family member.  This is not an easy transition.  It is, however, a testament to the unrelenting desire to please that these dogs display.

Looking back, it seemed ours was the first house he had been in that wasn't on a target.  He had nightmares - he would alternate with  cries and fiere growls.  He did not understand me, a woman, or our daughter.  I had a list of "nevers" I am ashamed to have judged him on.  We will never be able to leave him unattended with our child.  He will never get over his possessiveness of toys.  And yet just over a year later he plays fetch with our daughter and sleeps soundly snuggled up beside her.  He is the most patient, loving, and forgiving dog I have ever encountered.  It is humbling.  And it turns out he loves women - especially me because I fry eggs to top his breakfast.  He shattered every preconception I had and surpassed every expectation.  And he has done it with ease - it's so obvious he has so much more to give.  Even after all he has given our country over the years he still asks - what can I do for you?

Here is what we can do for him.  This morning, the vet told me he has a cancerous mass on his right hind leg.  It has to go.  The surgery is over $1200 and is scheduled for March 2nd.  Military dogs are classified as equipment so there is no support for them after they are released from service.  Please consider helping him.

Thank you for reading about Jordy.  Even under the circumstances, it is honestly a joy to share about him with others.   These dogs belong to us all.
