Bailey Needs Your Help

Poor little Bailey….Just before Christmas she was playing (with her four-week old puppies) in her own front yard when a neighbor drove into the driveway and ran over her back legs!

Her distraught owner rushed her into the vet who—after taking an x-ray--admitted that he was not “up” for such an extensive surgery (her pelvis was broken in several places).

So he suggested that euthanasia might be an option…..

But Bailey wasn’t ready to give up—and neither was her loving owner.

Without the financial resources she knew she would need, Bailey’s owner knew her first order of business was to find a rescue who was willing to commit to helping Bailey.

But finding a rescue to take Bailey was only half the problem.

Since immediate surgery was necessary, that rescue would need to find qualified veterinary surgeon willing to do the procedure over the holiday week

So next came a flurry of internet posts--begging for help.

After our rescue (One Starfish Rehoming Connections Inc. in Columbus, Wi.) heard of Bailey’s plight, saw her picture, and looked into her eyes….. Well, we knew that we had to help her, even though our rescue piggy bank was almost empty.

So we, too, then made some frantic phone calls.

Miraculously, our kind-hearted veterinarian Dr. John Silbernagel (who is a Board certified surgeon) agreed to do her surgery as soon as we were able to arrange transport from Iowa (where Bailey lived)

Bailey now faces a long recovery, but her future looks hopeful.

Although Bailey’s owner chipped in what she could—and we received a generous donation from one of our supporters who learned about Bailey’s plight—the vet bill still has a balance of almost $5000.

So this is where YOUR help is needed.

One Starfish Rehoming Connections is a tiny rescue and we are counting on your kindness to help us cover the remainder of Bailey’s vet bill so that we will be in a position to help the next special needs dog that comes along.
