Eats Port A Feeds Harvey Victims

Donation protected
My name is Richard. I am a the owner of Eats Port A.  We were fortunate enough to not suffer as much damage to our business as others in Port Aransas. The damage to our precious little city is horrifying. Our city has been devastated without power, water or utilities for quite some time now. Since we were fortunate enough to still have gas, we decided to try to feed the citizens, work crews, and anyone who could use a hot meal. We have been feeding hot meals, sharing stories, hugs and tears since the 30th. Our wonderful staff (even the now homeless staff) have been feeding others daily with no promises. They do it out love for our city and in hopes of rebuilding. We want to continue to serve the community as long as we can. We don't know how long this city will have to survive without electricity, but we will continue to serve a hot meal and a hug to anyone who needs it. We are running off a generator and the natural gas as long as we can. We will use the donations for food and supplies and for gas for our generator and to support the effort of feeding others as long as we can.

UPDATE (9/5/17): We are feeding about 500 plates/day.  We are burning through approximately $1000/day in food and supplies.  We hope to do this until we have electricity. We have raised enough to keep us going until Sunday.  If we change our goal to $6000 we can run through Monday (11 Sept).

UPDATE (9/7/17): WE HAVE ELECTRICITY!!!!!!! Don't worry though we are still feeding everyone. We have received enough donations to get us through the weekend. We did have some refrigerators break but hopefully those will get fixed soon. We know many of you were not so fortunate and are still working hard. Come take a break with us or fill up before you start working.

UPDATE (9/14/17): We wanted to open but we still can't.  So we are still feeding people almost 1000 plates per day.  We will keep doing this at least until this Sunday the 17th.  So we are asking for a little more help.

UPDATE (10/26/17): This is Richard Perales. I am the proud owner of Brooklyn Pie Company, and have been since 2014. I also own Eats Port A. It is unfortunate, but I need to comment on rumors being spread today.

I began raising money for relief efforts in Port Aransas after Hurricane Harvey on behalf of Eats.  Me and my head chef were in agreement that we would serve food to the community with the money raised in order to help rebuild.  I became aware of some issues with use of the funds, and I questioned the person about how the donated money was being used. I still have those questions.

Because of my questions about the person’s financial activities, false information has been posted by this person, about me and my other business. Apparently this person has encouraged others to do the same.

This is a highly distressing situation for me. I have been wrongfully attacked, and only because I tried to do the right thing.

I can only hope that if you have any questions or concerns about these comments, you will discuss them with me personally.

I have done nothing wrong, except that I made a mistake in dealing with this individual in the first place.

I can promise that all of the money raised is allocated to pay for food costs and supplies.  Per the store manager, we have receipts for all of the food the purchase. If there was any money left over from spending on food, supplies and relief effort (we will know with the receipts) I promise to put that money back into Port A.

Once I receive copies of those receipts, I will scan and personally email them to all who donated money to this cause.

Thank you.
