On December 21, 2016 my father, John Thorson, had an accident. He was packing the car for the annual Christmas trip to my sister’s home when he slipped on the ice and hit his head. From this accident, he suffered a serious brain hemorrhage and had to be rushed to the hospital. When he arrived, the doctors had little to no hope that he would make it out of surgery alive or be able to function due to the seriousness of the injury. After the second surgery, in just a few days, he was able to pull through to the astonishment of all of his doctors.
Since then, it has been a struggle to gain progress through different infections and other obstacles, but he is able to communicate, make jokes, and still makes time for others. To help him continue his progress physically and mentally, he is staying at a Nursing Home that costs $3,288 each month. In addition, they are seeing three different specialists monthly to monitor his conditions and check his progress which has been costly but vital to his recovery.
He and my mother, Kathy, have dedicated so much of their lives to helping others and serving. Now is the time that they are in need of help from others. The amount of $3,288 has been a daunting amount for just my mom to handle, as she is only part-time in her job as a life skills mentor for adults with disabilities. Our goal is to at least cover the rest of the year’s monthly costs to keep him at the nursing home to get the help he needs both physically and mentally as he receives physical and speech therapy.
The current goal is $9,864 to cover these three months. Anything that we can get to help my parents would be greatly appreciated and with a little help from a lot of friends, we can definitely achieve the goal.
