Emma Strong

Hi my name is Lisa, I am Emma’s aunt. Emma was sent to BCH, ER on Thursday of last week, and was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia & the rhino virus. After a 12 hour stay in the ER to determine whether Emma needed to be in the ICU Or sent to a regular unit they felt like she could be monitored on a regular unit they were sent upstairs and after an awful experience with nurses and NP and some attending fellows not knowing how to treat her for her complex medical care and Emma’s underlying illnesses they let her fever get worse, her treatments for her lungs fell behind. Emma then became worse she ended up needing to be transferred to the ICU for more equipped care. Emma ended up needing oxygen, treatments for her lungs every 2hrs, iv antibiotics, & stress dose steroid’s for her adrenaline Insufficiency, she was monitored very closely for the next 24hrs and seemed to be progressing well but unfortunately on May 21st she became increasingly worse after a repeat X-ray it showed that the pneumonia had become worse, her body has been retaining fluids, and she could not keep up on her own and was working to hard to breath doctors thought it would be best to put Emma on bypap to help keep her lungs open, also put her on Lasix, stronger antibiotics and held back on fluids. The plan for today May 22 is to watch Emma closely and see how she continues to do on the bypap and if they can slowly come down on it, if they can not then the next best course of action would be to intubate that is our last resort as they are trying there hardest to get Emma to her baseline but right now they want to make sure that her lungs are not working to hard. It has been very tough to see my niece in this position as well as my sister who is staying with her, I am trying to raise some money to help with gas, food and lodging as my sister had to check into a hotel room due to the ICU not being able to accommodate the sleeping arrangements.
