Help Support Kim's Ovarian Cancer Fight!

Donation protected
Hello friends & family ~ I'm reaching out today with a heavy heart to share my aunt's story as she faces a battle like no other she's faced. At just 60 years old, she has been confronted with a life-altering diagnosis that has turned her world upside down. Little did she know as she sat alongside my mom (her sister) day and night in her final hours, that she too was fighting her own cancer battle.

Just three days after my mom’s funeral, Kim took the weekend to recharge and rest before going back to work and resume life as it was before. But it didn't go as planned, she was in so much pain in her abdomen that she was forced to the ER. She shuttered at the slightest touch, even her blanket hurt while trying to sleep. My Uncle Alan took her to the ER and the results were not at all what any one of us expected. They did a CT scan and they told her she likely has a cancerous nodule in her peritoneal cavity, and that she needs to get in to see her PCP immediately. When she saw her PCP, she was told to pack a bag and go to the Houston Medical Center immediately.

Everything happened so fast and was very scary. You can imagine the shock when you don’t expect the kind of news she received, as well as her entire family. It was confirmed she does in fact have Stage 3 peritoneal cancer (stomach lining) that had spread from the ovaries.

On June 12th she underwent major surgery (known as “debulking”) for over five hours to open her abdomen and remove any cancer the team could find. The surgery revealed that cancer had covered her ovaries, the entire upper stomach lining and some into the diaphragm. In addition, a large amount had attached from her ovaries, and spread to some of her sigmoid colon and rectum. It was a very invasive and grueling surgery as well as recovery.

This Tuesday, July 11th Kim will begin the biggest fight of her life. She will begin chemo to kill any remaining, unseen cells in her body. This part of her journey will not be easy and will take a lot of strength and determination to get through. She will begin with 5 hours of chemo every 3 weeks, through 6 rounds.

Anyone that knows Kim knows she IS a fighter! She is a strong and independent woman who has worked hard her entire life. She isn't one to ask for help, instead is the one always helping others, like my mom who she sat beside with me day and night in the final days. But now with the sudden news and emergent care she needs, she has not been able to work at all. Being self-employed, it has made an impact financially because she doesn't have and will not have the strength to work.

I'd love if we can show some love and support to help offset the high cost of deductibles, co-payments and countless trips they will have this year to the Medical Center. If you're unable to at this time, that's ok, please lift her and Alan up in prayers or positive vibes! Thank you so much ~Love, Mitzi
