International Med Elective to Haiti

Hello friends and family. I am currently in my third year of medical school at Howard University College of Medicine. I, along with 14 other medical students, residents, and faculty, will be traveling to Fort-Liberté, Haiti in June to participate in an International Elective. In partnership with NOAH NY, I will be able to work at the Fort-Liberté Hospital providing much needed medical care to an underserved international community. This is a once and lifetime experience.
My dad was lucky enough to have traveled to over 50 countries in his lifetime doing missionary work for over 30 years. Unfortunately, I was never able to attend those trips. My way of travelling was through his pictures and stories of different cultures, foods, and places. In addition to seeing all the great work my father was able to accomplish for these communities, I was also able to see the positive effect each missionary trip had on him. Going on this trip is going to be a full circle moment for me in that I will be able to follow in his footsteps, providing service and care to others.
In doing my research on Haiti, I’m amazed at the resiliency of its residents. In 2010, a devastating hurricane ripped through the third world country changing the lives of the people forever. Almost 6 years later, Haiti is still rebuilding and putting back the pieces after this tragedy. The people of Haiti still need resources and help. I’m thankful that I can be apart of a continued mission to make Haiti a better country.
Unfortunately there are limited resources in regards to travel and accommodations, and we must cover the cost of our trip. I humbly ask for your help in completing this project. Any donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and used for a great cause. Thanks for helping making this life-long dream a reality. God Bless.
