Penny Beckel’s 25 year old son, Kenneth, was tragically killed on the afternoon of Friday, September 11, 2015. Penny and her husband adopted Kenneth as a baby. He was their biological nephew and the light of their life. Penny spoke daily of her pride and affection for Kenneth among her coworkers. Penny has devoted her life to a caring profession, working tirelessly for children with disabilities for over 35 years. The family has experienced hard times with health concerns and financial strains, but carries on with strength and fortitude. Those of us who know Penny are touched by her kindness and constant concern about others. In the midst of her anguish and grief over the untimely loss of her son, she expressed worry about the needs of her students and coworkers during her absence from work.
