Make Healthcare Accessible

My name is Parisa. I am a clinical engineer and I am passionate about helping others.
I am currently working as a clinical engineer at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. 

If you, like me, live in North America, and have been to a hospital you have seen all the high tech equipment that are used to treat the patients. Most of the equipment are designed and used in countries that spend more than $2000 per person per year on healthcare.
However, 80% of the human family lives on less than $10 a day and can not afford these high tech equipment. This created a massive gap in accessibility of healthcare technology, leaving the vast majority of our family members underserved. To close this gap, medical equipment is usually donated to help meet the medical technology needs in such countries.
But the majority of these equipment are either unusable when they arrive to their destination or they become dysfunctional after a few years. 
To truly close this gap, there is a need to design affordable medical equipment, train the local technical staff to do the repairs, and repair the donated equipment on site to make them useable and this is what I am planning to do this summer. 

I am planning to take unpaid time off from work for two months and volunteer at a hospital in Nicaragua through Engineering World Health (EWH). I need to raise $16000 to cover my travel and accommodation expenses as well as the costs associated with EWH for managing and maintaining medical equipment at my host hospital. 

I believe that everyone in our human family deserves accessible healthcare.  Help me, so together we can make this happen.
