Over 600,000 people in the United States make the transition from being incarcerated to being re-integrated into society every year. Being labeled as ex-offenders, they don't have the same rights the normal citizen has and they are often thought of as less of a person. The have no where to go when they are released and often go back to their old lives of crime. This can be seen in the overcrowding of a lot of prisons around the country. They have no access to job opportunities and that is why we see this cycle of recidivism. The company we are creating is called UnlockWRK. We are trying to create a platform for these previously convicted offenders that want to turn their lives around to be able to get access to jobs. We want to provide them with courses on employability skills through a certification program so they will be valuable in the workforce. They will take certain courses through our program teaching them these skills. Once they have been certified, they will gain access to our job board which will connect them with employers. See a lot of employers have a lot of problems with hiring ex-offenders because they may not trust them. If we can partner with a well established employability skills certification program, these employers will know that these ex-offenders have the abilities to join the workforce. If we can get this program integrated in prison systems around the country, we can slow down the cycle of recidivism. The funds will be used for creating this platform and create a budget for marketing! The support of the generosity of people all over the world will mean so much to my team and it will help change the lives of so many ex-offenders who deserve a second chance. We are so grateful for those who are willing to contribute to this cause.
